What is GlobalCastMD?

GlobalCastMD exists to create a low-cost of participation, virtual platform where medical professionals can attend world class medical educational symposia from the comfort of their own home or office and for a fraction of the cost of a live show.


Todd Ponsky MD
Founder & Chief Medical Officer

Todd Ponsky is currently Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics and a Pediatric Surgeon at Akron Children's Hospital.  Dr. Ponsky attended Medical School at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio from 1995-1999, Residency in General Surgery at The George Washington University in Washington, DC from 1999-2005, Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC from 2005-2007, and an Advanced Minimally Invasive Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at The Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver, CO from 2007-2008.

Dr. Ponsky has a particular interest in pediatric minimally invasive surgery.  He has trained over 150 surgeons in Single Port Surgery.  He has written over 50 manuscripts and 10 book chapters.  He has a strong focus on surgical education and virtual education and has directed 15 national / international courses. He has won numerous teaching awards including "The Faculty Teaching Award" at Case Western Reserve Department of Surgery in his first year as faculty. He is a reviewer for over 15 medical journals and is on the editorial board of The Journal of Laparoendoscopic and Advanced Surgical Techniques. He is on the leadership of four national societies and was the 2012 program chair of The International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG). He is involved in both outcomes and animal research with a focus on inguinal hernia physiology and endoscopic repair techniques for pure esophageal atresia.  Dr. Ponsky is married to Diana and they have three daughters:  Sasha, Josie, and Ella.


Marc Schwachter MD

Marc Schwachter has evolved from practicing obstetrics and gynecology toward the medical technology web-based education communication space. Throughout his formal medical education, he was constantly trying to combine new technologies into his routine.  Whether it be developing databases for patient management on his palm pilot (remember those?), or developing a better way to do a sign-out after a long night of OB call he was always cobbleing technologies together to make things easier.

Marc and Todd have been friends since they were kids. When Todd and he put on the first web symposium in a spare classroom at University Hospitals in Cleveland, they used a few laptops, a polycomm system and webcams.  Things have changed but the principles are the same.  Marc still aims to to revolutionize physician education, through innovative uses of web 2.0, video, and e-learning technologies. 

Learning via textbook has it's place, but Marc believes that the core of medical training still involves apprenticeship/mentorship with other doctors. His Mission is to facilitate this collaboration by creating a real-time, global, medical education community. GlobalCastMD allows him realize these goals by constantly pushing the envelope of traditional education. 

Marc has many diverse skills and interests including application design, web site development and design, video editing, marketing, sales and of course, CME content development. He is married to Jamie and has three children: Ava, Alex, and Simon.


Zachary Ponsky
CEO

At GlobalCastMD, Zac is the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the development of the business platform for this online medical education company created by doctors for doctors.  In this roll, Zac oversees the general direction of the company and the medical educational content created through these interactive productions, which flattens knowledge sharing with medical professionals all over the world.

Previously, Zac was employed at Lexin Capital.  At Lexin Capital, Zac had responsibilities of originating equity investments and joint ventures for the firm across several major U.S. markets.  In this role, Zac also had a concentration on new business development and acquisitions.  Prior to joining Lexin Capital, Zac was the Director of AmTrust Bank's (AMT) real estate department as well as the bank's community affairs department. Zac's responsibilities at AMT included management of the bank's equity investments and joint venture partnerships with builders and developers.  In addition, Zac directed the purchasing and property management departments of the bank.  This included facility management, tenant and landlord leasing, construction management, space management, real estate finance, property acquisitions, and entitlement and development management.

Before joining AMT, Zac worked at Trammell Crow Company, as part of their national healthcare team. He had business development responsibilities for the northeast region of the country, with a focus on healthcare facility development. Prior to this role, Zac was involved in the development management of several of Trammell Crow's Southern California industrial and office development projects.  Outside of work, Zac holds a strong passion for healthcare access issues for the uninsured and underinsured in the United Sates.  As a result, Zac founded MedWorks.

This health program enlists thousands of doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists and other healthcare providers to volunteer at make shift clinics and within the existing safety nets to provide healthcare services and preventive health education, and then connecting them all with ongoing follow up medical care and medical homes.  In the past five years, Medworks has held dozens of healthcare clinics, providing more than 20,000 free appointments and services, Then the catastrophe in Joplin, MO occurred. With his knowledge of mobile medical operations, he headed down from Cleveland to offer assistance to local authorities in their disaster response and relief. Within days, Zac coordinated the deployment and delivery of a mobile operating room to manage the surge in patient care. As hospital needs expanded, Zac secured a range of mobile medical equipment for St. John' s new field hospital.  As a result, Zac expanded the focus of the Mobile Med One Foundation to include disaster relief as a core service. The organization developed and owns a fully stocked 20-bed mobile field hospital, including two procedure rooms.  The unit is ready to deploy immediately at anytime and for any reason free of charge.  This model allows Mobile Med One to respond fast and light with no red tape in the way. MobileMed One is currently developing its training programs for disaster preparedness, which include, Urban Terrorism and Active Shooter curriculums. Zac is currently a board member for Coldwell Banker Hunter Realty, Chairman of the Board for Medworks, Executive Director for MobileMed One Foundation and board member of Medwish International. In addition, Zac recently concluded an executive education program at Harvard University in the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, which is a joint program of the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.   Zac graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a B.S. in Education.  Zac is married to his wife Taryn and has two children, Jake and Austin.


Michael Attias
CFO

Michael Attias joined Globalcast MD as CFO in 2011. He was previously the Senior Vice President of a Commercial Real Estate Lending division of Ohio Savings Bank, a mid-sized regional bank specializing in consumer and commercial real estate lending. At Ohio Savings Bank, his responsibilities included origination, underwriting and management of a $3.0 Billion investment portfolio and supervision of thirteen regional investment offices across the United States and Canada.

Michael received a B.S in Accountancy from the W.P Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and his M.B.A. in finance from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.  Michael began his career as senior staff Certified Public Accountant with the accounting firm of Ernst & Young before pursuing his banking career.  Michael has a passion for developing business teams and helping them achieve results.  Additionally, he contributes generously as an active board member and chairperson at numerous non-profit community associations. Michael enjoys playing ice hockey, cycling, and spending time with his family.  He is married to Cindy and has four children, Jacob, Ellie, Sam, and Joe.


Ted Rodenborn
Production Director

Ted joined GlobalCastMD as Production Director in 2015.  Before joining GCMD, he was a freelance production and post-production specialist in Palo Alto, California. Ted has been fortunate to have worked in nearly every major space in production from feature films, to commercials, to corporate production, and even live television. He has also worked in numerous positions including: Editor, Assistant Editor, Film Scanner, Encoding Specialist, Engineer, Location Sound Recordist, and Lighting Grip. Ted considers himself a lifelong learner, and is excited to be working with GCMD in the medical education space.

Ted’s career has taken him coast to coast, working in many different mediums. While working at glorious Technicolor in New York City, he worked on many large budget feature films including: “The Wedding Crashers,” “The Pink Panther,” “The Departed,” “Trust the Man,” and “Inside Job.” Before leaving New York, he also got to walk the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival as the Assistant Editor for the feature documentary, “Run For Your Life.” A subsequent move to California came with a shift from film to corporate media and tv in the digital space. While in the Bay Area, Ted worked production and post-production for clients including: Facebook, Google, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, McKinsey and Co., IBM, the San Francisco 49ers, the San Jose Sharks, and Disney.

Ted holds a BA in Theatre from UC Riverside, a MFA in Acting from Case Western Reserve University, and a certificate in Editing from the Edit Center in New York City. Among his favorite hobbies, he is a Tenor in the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus. He is married to Martha, and they have three children: Elena, Philip, and Kyra.


Andrew Christensen

For the past 15 years, Andrew has been developing websites and web applications for individuals and businesses from small to enterprise. In 2012, Andrew and his business partner, Jason Aplin, founded Tilde to bring a new and innovative content management system to businesses. Andrew and Jason recognized that the options for most businesses, who don't have the resources to completely custom build a content management system for their website, were really dismal. The "over-night" or "instant" site builders created less than stellar websites and the more robust systems required too much technical knowledge. Andrew and Jason set out to fix that.

Tilde has developed a next-generation content management system, which is at the root of GlobalCastMD's new website. Building on this architecture, GlobalCastMD has been able to bring to life new features and present their technology and purpose in a whole new way, free from the limitations they previously faced. Tilde and GlobalCastMD are partnered to continue to develop incredible new technology over the coming years.
